Re: Shifting a Picture's Time

Postby bob@burgessweb.co.uk » Fri Oct 23, 2009 12:48 pm

My problem is not shifting time on photos. I have approx 11,000 photos that I have scanned in from negatives and I need to go through and date them all. They were taken between 1960 and 1999 and most I can pinpoint the date but not the time. (As long as they are in the order they where taken the time doesn't really matter).

How would I manage this scenario in Zoner

Regards Bobby

Hello there Bobby!

If I understand you right, you want to quickly and conveniently, but still manually, go through a large group (or group of groups) of pictures and hand-edit their File-created time/date so that they will sort in their real-life time order in whatever program you view them in. I'll go from that below. If I'm wrong, just correct me!

For this kind of "semi-automatic" edit to multiple pictures' picture information -- that is, things like Rating, ISO, Description, File-created time/date, etc. -- the thing to use is the Image Information window (Information > Image Information...).

When you enter this window, it will show either all selected pictures or, if no pictures are selected, all pictures in the current folder. Note that either way, you can only work with the pictures in one folder at a time.

The Image Information window is divided into five sections. You need the General Information section, which may not be visible at first. To switch to it if needed, use the drop-down list in the middle of the window.

Just like with a "real" Zoner Photo Studio batch-work window, the column at the left shows all pictures in your manual "batch." To select a picture in the batch, click it. To remove the selected picture from the batch, leaving it unchanged, select it and click Remove. To edit an information item for the selected picture, double-click the item and type in the edit. To apply your edit (to make it "stick") and remove the picture from the queue, click Apply.

Incidentally, the pencil icon to the right of some information items (including picture's Created time/date) indicates that they are editable -- not all information types are editable.

Any further questions? Just ask.

Best regards,
